Fans at the Remo Stars Stadium on Wednesday were treated to a seven-goal thriller as Imperial FC defeated Broad City FC 4-3 in the Creative Championship Cup.
Imperial FC raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening 17 minutes of the game before Broad City reduced the deficit to a single goal with two late first-half strikes.
Rilwan Oniyide’s well-taken goal for Imperial FC in the 60th minute abated chances of a Broad City comeback. However, Kassim Shobanke found the back of the net 12 minutes later to set up a tense finish but Imperial held on for the win.
Midfielder Rilwan Oniyide was named Man of the Match following the conclusion of the game. Speaking on the award, Oniyide said:
“I feel glad but this award is not only for me. It is for the team because everyone put in the hard work. I’m dedicating this award to the entire team because we all put in the hard work. Kudos to our goalkeeper as well. He made a lot of saves.
Oniyide also spoke of the importance of the win for his side. He added: “We really needed the win today. I’m happy we came out victorious because it is not easy for us. We have been putting in the hard work week in week out for us to be at our best level.
“We haven’t qualified yet. We have a game on Friday so we still have to put in the hard work to make sure we qualify for the next round.”
