The last has surely not been heard about likelihood of a January exit from Aston Villa for Tammy Abraham, as Wolverhampton Wanderers insist they still have a deal for the lad, who is currently on loan from Chelsea.
Sports247.ng can report that, although Tammy opted out of a deal with Wolves, because he wants a full transfer instead of a loan, the Molineux club are still in the hunt for his signature.
However, another twist has come to the story, as top-flight rivals, Crystal Palace also believe they can get a deal with the Nigerian-born striker.
The report out of Palace indicates that The Eagles’ top brass have made a concrete move for the England international.
Palace, who currently sit only six points above the EPL’s drop zone, after scoring just 19 goals in 21 league games this season, are desperate for a touch of fresh firepower up front.
They consider Tammy hot bet for the job, after seeing him net 16 times in 20 appearances for English Championship promotion chasing Villa.
Palace ditched their pursuit of another Nigerian-born striker, Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke, after fearing fitness issues and were later priced out by Bournemouth last week.
However, they are still in the market for loans and are hopeful Abraham could be interested in returning to London.
On the other hand, Villa boss, Dean Smith was expecting Abraham to stay put, amidst reports that the striker is contemplating defection to their top-flight neighbours, Wolves.
With Chelsea, though, insisting on another loan rather than a permanent £18m sale, Villa are confident that 21-year-old Abraham will stay put.
That would dampen the morale at Wolves, whose coach, Nuno Espirito Santo says the club will only sign a special player during this month.
A move for Abraham has been put on hold, but Wolves remain hopeful they will be able to sign the England international, and Nuno says he will only bring in somebody who can dramatically change his team.
“When you bring someone, you have to be careful what you bring. It has to be something we don’t have already.
“If someone comes, they have to bring something really, really special, because we already have something good,” the Wolves gaffer stated.
