Nottingham Forest are set to sign Taiwo Awoniyi in a club-record £17.5 million deal, Sports247 reports.
The Premier League new boys have reportedly reached an agreement to sign the striker from Union Berlin.
Awoniyi is eager to return to the Premier League barely a year after leaving Liverpool permanently. The £17.5 million fee would surpass the £13.2 million Forest paid Benfica for Joao Carvalho in 2018.
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in August 2015 from Imperial Soccer Academy and was loaned out seven times before signing for Union Berlin for £6.5 million in 2021.
The Nigerian spent time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron (twice), Gent, Mainz, and Union Berlin before joining the latter permanently a year ago. He did not make a single competitive appearance for Liverpool during his 6-year association with the club.
Awoniyi had a fantastic 2021/22 season, scoring 15 goals in 31 games in the Bundesliga for. He netted 20 times and provided 5 assists in 43 games across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has made four senior national team appearances for Nigeria. If the deal is completed, Liverpool will earn 10% of the total amount.
