Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal as Nottingham Forest recorded their second win of the season against his former employers in a thrilling encounter at their home ground against Liverpool to ease off pressures on Steve Copper.
The Nigerian striker who arrived on a club record fee from Germany-based side Union Berlin grabbed the only goal of the game in the 55th minute as the reds recorded their second win of the season to lift their bottom of the EPL log although still in the relegation zone.
After robbing Joe Gomez of possession to win a free-kick, Awoniyi got himself into the box to latch onto Steve Cook’s driven cross, hitting the post with his first attempt and finishing the second having played just 12 minutes across the previous three matches.
Nottingham Forest have now defied their woeful form to beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Premier League taking their unbeaten home run in topflight H2Hs in nine matches, all thanks to Awoniyi’s winner.
