The technical director of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Victor John says the martial arts sport’s governing body has set early plans in motion for this year’s Africa Youth Games as well as the 2026 Youth Olympics.
Sports247 gathered that the African level of the youth development fiesta will take place in Luanda, Angola from December 10 to 20, while the global spree will between October 31 and November 13, 2026 in Dakar, Senegal.
Although the dates appear far ahead and still several days yet to come, Victor John declared that the NTF is working ahead of time in order to present medal-winning athletes.
The soft-spoken martial arts guru added that the recent Africa Junior Cadet Taekwondo Championship in Abuja was part of the federation’s progressive efforts towards ensuring glorious outings by the country’s contingent at the aforementioned youth competitions.
John disclosed, “The junior cadets championship was a G2 competition. That means our young ones had 20 points available to grab.
“Those 20 points are huge, because we have the African Youth Games coming up later this year on Angola; and our athletes will not only hope to participate but also to make the country proud.”
The taekwondo tactician went on to relate how the NTF aims to use all upcoming events and outings to further prepare Nigeria’s youngsters for the task of returning home with medals from next year’s Youth Olympics.
“This is a preparatory process for them. Beyond that, we all know that next year is the Youth Olympics, and Nigeria Taekwondo Federation is determined to present athletes who will deliver medals for the country,” John reassured.
