National table tennis coach, Nasiru Bello has charged young players in the ping-pong sport to step up their efforts, in order to lay claim to titles in the coming year.
Bello warned in a chat with sports247.ng that Nigeria’s older players will continue staying on top and call the shots until the younger ones take the bull by the horn.
Bello stated further that Nigeria’s junior and intermediate players must take up the challenge of matching the older ones and even beating the top stars of the past generation.
He confessed that he would love to see a situation whereby a young player overcomes the much more illustrious set of Funke Oshonaike, Ofiom Edem, Segun Toriola and Aruna Quadri.
Bello lamented: “There are not many younger players who are close to the quality of the old top players.
“This situation, therefore, nullifies the spreading talk of calling for Funke and Segun to retire; when they can’t be beaten by other players. “
