Quadri Aruna has qualified for the WTT Cup Finals in Xinxiang, China from October 27 to 30, following a favourable outcome of the game between Germany’s Timo Boll and Taiwan’s Lin Yun-ju.
After crashing out at the round of 32 of the WTT Champions in Macao, China, after a 3-0 defeat at the hand of Sweden’s Anton Kallberg on Thursday, Aruna needed Lin Yun-ju to defeat Boll to secure a spot at the WTT Cup Finals.
Fortunately for Aruna, he secured his spot for the prestigious tournament after Lin Yun-ju piped Boll 3-2 (9-11, 14-12, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6) to make way for Africa’s number one to appear in his second ever WTT Cup Finals.
Sixteen top elite players around the world will participate in the tournament later this month, with $1m prize money would be shared among the competitors.
The 34-year-old reached the quarterfinals of the maiden edition of the tournament, as he remains the only African to ever feature at the prestigious tournament.
