The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sports and Chairman of Akwa United Football Club Elder Paul Bassey has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Akwa Ibom State Football Supporters Club.
Chairman of the supporters club Mr. Paul Hillary while presenting the Award to Elder Paul Bassey in his office explained that it was the collective decision of the supporters club to honour the Chairman of Akwa United following his immense contributions and meritorious service towards sports development in Akwa Ibom State.
“The decision to honour Elder Paul Bassey with an Award of Excellence was taken by all the members of the supporters club who unanimously agreed that he deserves even more for his good works. As a veteran journalist and an outstanding sports administrator, we are proud of him because he has used his wealth of experience to repositioned sports in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
” Under his leadership, Akwa United is now a well managed top club in Nigeria. His excellent administrative skills has seen him being appointed into the Interim Management Committee of the Nigeria Professional Football League by the Minister for Youth and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare. So we are indeed delighted to honour him with this Award of Excellence”.
Receiving the Award in the presence of some management staff of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey commended the executives and members of the supporters club for the honour done him and wished them well in all their endeavours.
“I want to sincerely appreciate the supporters club for this very special Award.The supporters club is an integral part of any football team in the world because they have real passion for the beautiful game.
“Akwa Ibom State football supporters club have always been supporting and encouraging us at Akwa United whenever we play at home and in some away games. Trust us we are not taking your sacrifices for granted and let me assure you that we will do the best we can to support your activities. Once again, thank you for this wonderful Award” said Elder Bassey.
