Former Nigerian international Joseph Yobo expressed optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances in their upcoming clash against Ivory Coast in the aftermath of a hard-fought draw against Equatorial Guinea in their opening Group A game.

Yobo, who was a guest on Afrosports AFCON 2023 Coverage, acknowledged the significance of avoiding defeat against Equatorial Guinea.

“Most importantly, we didn’t lose this game. I believe we can do better in the next game against Ivory Coast,” stated Yobo.
“In as much as we had chances to beat Equatorial Guinea, I will, however, encourage the team to focus on their next game.”
The former Everton defender emphasized the Super Eagles’ character in reacting positively when faced with adversity.
He praised the team’s confidence and fighting spirit, expressing satisfaction with their swift comeback after going down by a goal.
“Kudos should also go to Osimhen for netting the goal and Lookman for providing the assist. The team must keep the spirit going,” Yobo added.
Additionally, he acknowledges the Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper for making some brilliant saves and covering up for defensive lapses.
