Head Coach of the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon, Gabriel Zabo insisted that Nigeria’s Super Falcons were not better than his team despite being knocked out of the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations by the nine-time African champions on Thursday.
The two best-ranked teams in Africa locked horns with each other in the third match of quarterfinal of the 2022 WAFCON in Casablanca yesterday’s night, but it was Super Falcons that came out victorious once more thanks to a 56 minute header by Rasheedat Ajibade to send Nigeria through to the last eight of the tournament.
With the victory also, Super Falcons secured an automatic qualification to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, billed to hold in Australia and New Zealand next year, which will mark their 9th appearance in 9 editions of the women’s football biggest showpiece.
And speaking on the last yesterday, Zabo stated that Nigeria weren’t stronger than his teams, that Super Falcons only won because of their experience.
He also made it known that hope of securing a World Cup ticket is not over.
“The game was won on fine details. They were not stronger than us, but they used the experience they have in the big competitions,”Zabo was quoted by CAFonline.
“And in this game, when it comes to utilizing their experience, they are unbeatable.”
“It’s not all over, we still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup this Sunday. My players showed by their level of play tonight that they were happy to be globalists,” said Zabo.
Super Falcons will face their counterparts from Morocco, the host nation on Monday in a semifinal clash at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex while Cameroon will slug it out against Botswana to the sole Africa ticket for the intercontinental playoff.
