Super Falcons Head Coach, Randy Waldrum, has asserted that the team’s unwavering focus remains on securing a positive result in their upcoming clash against Canada, despite the ongoing bonus row with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as they gear up for the highly anticipated 2023 Women’s World Cup.
As the tournament draws near, the Nigerian women’s national team finds itself embroiled in a dispute over bonuses with the country’s football governing body.
Nevertheless, Coach Waldrum has made it abundantly clear that his players are determined to block out any distractions and remain resolutely concentrated on their opening match against Canada on Friday, followed by subsequent encounters with Australia and the Republic of Ireland.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Coach Waldrum expressed his satisfaction with the team’s response to the bonus saga, revealing that the players collectively made a commitment not to let the issue overshadow their World Cup campaign.
Addressing the matter head-on, the team convened upon their arrival at the tournament and unanimously decided to refrain from discussing the bonus dispute any further.
Instead, they resolved to channel their energies solely toward their sporting duties and the challenges that lie ahead on the pitch.
“We will be there. All of that transpired before we came and I think the team, once we all arrived here, have just focused on Canada,” affirmed Waldrum. “We met about it the first night we arrived, and at that point, we all just agreed not to continue to discuss it, not let it be out there, and that we’re here to do a job.”
With their sights firmly set on the upcoming matches, the Super Falcons are eager to make their mark on the global stage.
Despite the off-field issues, the players have displayed immense professionalism and dedication, vowing to put their best foot forward and embrace the spirit of competition at the Women’s World Cup.
As Nigeria prepares to embark on its World Cup journey, all eyes will be on the Super Falcons, eager to witness their determination and skill in what promises to be an exhilarating display of women’s football talent on the world’s grandest stage.
