In a remarkable display of progress, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, has witnessed a significant leap in the latest FIFA Women’s World ranking.
Released on Thursday, the rankings reveal that the Super Falcons have climbed two spots to secure the 40th position in the world, showcasing an impressive improvement since their last ranking in May.
Maintaining their dominance in Africa, the Super Falcons continue to hold the top spot on the continent with 1554.94 ranking points. They have surpassed South Africa (54th), Ghana (58th), Cote d’Ivoire (66th), Morocco (72nd), Tunisia (76th), and Zambia (77th) in the rankings.
With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on the horizon, Nigeria is set to make its ninth appearance in the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Alongside Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Morocco will represent the African continent in the prestigious event scheduled from July 20 to August 20.
As the reigning champions, the United States retains its top position in the rankings with 2099.03 points. Germany (2061.56), Sweden (2049.71), England (2040.76), and France (2026.65) complete the top five women’s football teams in the world.
This latest ranking serves as the final assessment before the commencement of the much-anticipated 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which promises to be an exhilarating event co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July.
