This development comes as a result of ongoing contract negotiations between Waldrum and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as confirmed by NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire.
According to Olajire, Waldrum has decided not to be part of the upcoming Super Falcons’ matches until his contract situation is resolved with the NFF. As a result, the team’s Nigerian assistant coaches will take charge of the matches, overseeing both legs of the qualifiers.
The contract issue between Waldrum and the NFF has been ongoing since the expiration of his previous contract, which concluded after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Despite guiding Nigeria to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, Waldrum’s new contract has not been finalized.
While Waldrum may be absent from the coaching staff, the Super Falcons have assembled a star-studded squad in preparation for their vital match against Ethiopia.
Among the notable players in the camp is France-based goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has been delivering exceptional performances for her club, Paris FC.
Additionally, defenders like Oluwatosin Demehin, midfield maestro Rasheedat Ajibade, and the reigning Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, are part of the 19-strong Super Falcons squad ready to compete in the Paris 2024 Women’s Football Tournament qualifying Second Round.
Their first-leg clash with Ethiopia is expected to be an exciting and pivotal encounter.
Even without their head coach, the Super Falcons remain favorites to advance to the final qualifying round, and fans are eager to see them secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
