Super Falcons Maintain 36th Spot in Latest FIFA Women’s Rankings, Stay Africa’s Best

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on March 6, 2025. With 1622.49 points, they remain the highest-ranked African team for the fifth consecutive time.

The Falcons achieved their best-ever ranking in 2003 when they were placed 23rd globally. Their recent friendly against France, which ended in a narrow 1-2 defeat, could have influenced their position but was not enough to push them higher.

Next on Nigeria’s schedule is the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against Benin Republic in April.

Defending WAFCON champions South Africa are the second-best African side at 54th globally, while Morocco follows in 90th place.

Significant movements were recorded across Africa, with Tanzania and Kenya climbing seven places each after their WAFCON qualifying victories over Equatorial Guinea and Tunisia, respectively.

Tanzania now ranks 145th, while Kenya sits at 149th. Meanwhile, Tunisia suffered the biggest drop, falling 11 places to 89th after their loss to Kenya.

On the global stage, the United States continues to lead the rankings, followed by world champions Spain in second place. Germany and England maintain third and fourth positions, while Japan moves up to fifth after winning the ‘SheBelieves Cup’ with victories over Australia (4-0), Colombia (4-1), and the USA (2-1).

Sweden, Canada, and Brazil each slipped one spot to sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively. North Korea and the Netherlands complete the top ten rankings.
