In the continental standings, the Super Falcons lead ahead of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who hold the 51st spot globally. The Atlas Lionesses of Morocco are positioned third in Africa, standing at 56th in the world rankings.
This consistent performance underlines Nigeria’s continued strength in women’s football on the African continent. Coach Randy Waldrum’s squad has maintained their top spot despite stiff competition from other African teams.
Globally, the reigning world champions, Spain’s La Roja, solidified their hold as the world’s number one team. Following closely, France’s Les Bleues have climbed to second place, overtaking England, which now sits in the third spot. This shift in the rankings reflects the dynamic nature of international women’s football, with teams continually challenging for the top positions.
Germany has also made significant progress, moving past the United States to claim the fourth position. This marks a notable change in the hierarchy of women’s football, with traditional powerhouses jostling for prominence.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking update is scheduled for August 16, 2024. As the Super Falcons and other teams continue their preparations for upcoming Olympics, the rankings provide a clear reflection of the evolving landscape of women’s football on both the continental and global stages.
