Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede has promised that the team will not play to get a draw when they line out away to Benin Republic next Thursday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Sports247.ng reports that the Nigerian squad will enter the game billed for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in need of just a point to confirm their qualification for next year’s AFCON with a match to spare, ahead of their home fixture with Rwanda.
However, while acknowledging that a point will put the Eagles in an unassailable position ahead of their nearest challengers, Rwanda, Ogunmodede stressed that they will tanho The Cheetahs with determination to win.
Ogunmodede, who is also the head coach of Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Remo Stars of Ikenne, declared emphatically, “Every match, we want to enter it like a cup final.
“It doesn’t matter whether we need a point or not. The mentality that the coach has given us is that we must go to all matches and win.
“We just want to win all matches, regardless of how many points there are left for us to qualify.”
Ogunmodede admitted that the ultimate target agead of the team is to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, but stressed that the Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has also directed that they must win all their remaining matches.
“Our first priority is to qualify, and the second is to win all our matches as they come.
“That’s why we take every match seriously as they come. Maximum three points are what are important to us, according to the head coach,” Ogunmodede expatiated.
