Super Eagles Super Performance Against Benin Republic Completes Nigeria’s Weekend of Super Sports

Super Eagles 3-0 victory against Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup qualifier completes an excellent weekend for Nigeria in the world of sports.

The match which attracted a near capacity crowd to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday saw the Super Eagles return to winning ways after securing the maximum three points against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic to begin their journey to Morocco 2025 on a winning note.

The Augustine Eguavoen led team completed a super performance with three breathtaking goals as Ademola Lookman (brace) and Victor Osimhen score to give Nigerians joy on the day.

The result completed a wave of good results in favour of Nigeria Sports over the weekend as Nigeria excels in Para-powerlifting, Para- Table Tennis, Fiba U18 Afrobasket and at FIFA U20 Women World Cup going on to Cali Colombia.

The weekend started on Friday with a gold medal at the Paralympics Onyinyechi Mark won Nigeria’s first gold medal and set a new world record in the Para Powerlifting 61 kg division with a 150k breaking the previous record, of 146kg which was incidentally set by her at the 2023 World Championships in Dubai.

Team Nigeria followed up on Saturday with more Paralympics medals on Saturday with Flora Ngwunwa silver medal effort in Javelin F54 event with a throw of 19.26m and Bose Omolayo also returned Silver medal in the 65 kg division with a lifting 154 kg.

Isau Ogunkunle put an end to the twenty year wait for Nigeria to win another medal in the Para Table tennis event men’s class 4 by winning a Bronze medal despite losing his semi final match by 3-1 to South Korea’s Kim Young-gun at the South Arena in Paris on Sunday.

From Paris to Pretoria, it was another sweet story for Nigeria sport as the Nigeria U18 men’s basketball team bounced back from their opening day loss in the FIBA U18 Afrobasket championship going on South Africa to record a 70-65 win against Angola, in the heavyweight clash in group B, a result which keeps the team in the hunt for a world championship ticket.

Finally, it was another bouncing back story for the Falconets, the Nigeria U20 Women Football Team, overcame initial set back of losing 3-1 to Germany to record a 4-1 victory over the counterparts from Venezuela to book a quarter final ticket in the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia
