Super Eagles Ready to Battle Libya in AFCON 2025 Qualifier in Uyo

Nigeria is set to host Libya in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.

The Super Eagles will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run in the qualifiers, while Libya aims for their first win of the campaign.

Match Preview

Nigeria opened their AFCON qualifying campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Benin Republic, followed by a 0-0 draw against Rwanda.

With four points from two games, the Super Eagles top Group D and are yet to concede a goal. A doubleheader victory against Libya could strengthen their qualification hopes.

Historically, Nigeria has dominated Libya, winning all four previous encounters, including two in the 2018 AFCON qualifiers.

Head coach Augustine Eguavoen remains in charge on an interim basis and is tasked with guiding Nigeria to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

The Super Eagles have only lost once in their last 14 AFCON qualifiers.

Libya, meanwhile, are bottom of Group D with just one point after a 1-1 draw against Rwanda and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic.

Head coach Milutin Sredojevic will be looking to end their 12-year AFCON absence with a turnaround in Uyo.

Nigeria will be without key striker Victor Osimhen and defender Olisah Ndah due to injuries.

Ademola Lookman, who scored twice in their last home game, will lead the attack, alongside returning players Chidera Ejuke and Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Libya will miss several key players due to injury, including Ahmed Al-Tarbi and Mohammed Al-Tabbal.

Striker Ahmed Kraouaa is expected to lead their offense despite being goalless in the qualifiers.

A win for Nigeria will put them closer to sealing their AFCON 2025 ticket.
