Super Eagles’ Players Are All Fired Up, Eager To Whip Rwanda On Friday, Troost-Ekong Assures

Super Eagles’ captain, William Troost-Ekong has disclosed that he and other players in Nigeria’s national team’s camp are all fired up and eager to whip Rwanda in Friday’s World Cup qualifier, Sports247 reports.

Although the Eagles are away to Rwanda in the encounter, and they will play under their new coach, Eric Chelle, for the first time, Troost-Ekong pointed out that the players are already adjusting to the Franco-Malian gaffer’s tactics and instructions.

The vastly improved centre-back, who was voted as the most valuable player at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, further assured that all the Eagles’ players will give their very best on Friday, because they know what is at stake.

Troost-Ekong, who previously played for the youth teams of Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in England, as well as Groningen and Dodrecht of Netherlands, but is now with Al-Kholood in Saudi Arabia, disclosed, “Everything has been good. All the boys are in camp, and we are fired up.

“We all know that we have a big job ahead of us and there’s a lot of pressure. Yes, there’s pressure, but I keep saying to everyone that this type of pressure is a privilege, and all the boys are feeling that way too.”

The Eagles’ skipper, who has also previously played for Haugesund of Norway, Gent of Belgium, Bursaspor of Turkey, PAOK Saloniki of Greece as well as Salernitana and Udinese of Italy, added that the Nigerian squad welcomed Chelle with warmth, as they want him to settle down quickly, in order to get victory from his first game in charge.

Troost-Ekong, who was part of Nigeria’s bronze medal-winning team at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will get his 77th senior cap on Friday, continued: “We are all very happy to work with the new coach. He’s giving us a lot of instructions and wants to make sure we understand what he wants from us on Friday. We are working towards that, and these are the key moments. We have to stand out, but none of us is scared of that.”

The 31-ywar-old stopper, who was born in The Netherlands to a Dutch mother and Nigerian father, concluded with his personal assurance about victory for the Eagles on Friday, even as he assured their fans all over the world that the players are ready to floor Rwanda in Kigali.

“Personally, for me, it’s always special when I’m here, and I’m very, very happy when I have Nigeria’s badge on my chest. The other boys feel this same way too.

“Being with a new coach, we’ve tried to welcome him as quickly as possible. He’s been very clear about what he wants from us and what he’s expecting. So, we just have to understand and do the job. I’m very happy that he’s here and he’s already given us a lot of information. So, we are looking forward to the game on Friday,” revealed Troost-Ekong,
