Former Super Eagles winger, Garba ‘Chindo’ Lawal has declared that the Nigerian team will have to be fully focused and alert to beat Libya in next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
Although the former Roda of Holland star acknowledged that the Eagles will aim to make the best of home advantage and beat the visitors at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, he warned that costly mistakes could turn the tide around.
Lawal stated further Wednesday morning on a radio sports programme monitored by sports247.ng that mistakes cannot be ruled out of football, but each player should always try to avoid making costly ones.
He reckoned that, with adequate training and proper planning by the coaches and officials, the players would be able to stay fully focused on the task at hand and rise to the occasion on October 13.
Lawal admonished: “What we need now is for the players to be fully focused on the task at hand. It is only through full focus that they can avoid making costly mistakes.
“It is true that we cannot avoid making mistakes in a match, but we must not make those that are costly and could lead to defeat for the team.
“That is why the coaches and officials should do everything to ensure the players are not distracted. With determination and commitment from them, I am sure they will beat Libya.”
