Super Eagles May Eventually Need ‘Miracle Working’ Coach – Okunnowo

With Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) continuing to drag feet on the appointment of a substantive coach for the Super Eagles, former Barcelona of Spain defender, Gbenga Okunnnowo has joked that the team may eventually need ‘a miracle worker.’

While expressing his thoughts over the hiatus that continues looming in the Eagles’ coach saga, the ex-international full-back, who is known as ‘Eric’ by his close associates, opted to be sarcastic in his response.

He mocked the NFF for failing to be decisive in naming the Eagles’ new coach and wondered how they would expect him to succeed within a short time that would eventually be available to him.

The product of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan wondered what kind of magic the new coach would pull off if he eventually started on the job just two weeks before the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

Okunnowo stressed: “Let them put the person they want to put. We don’t have time. There is no time to waste in the national team.

“The coach has to call in players and blend them. If you now put the coach just two weeks to a match, do you want him to perform a miracle?

“He needs time to travel to Europe and watch the players, but that is not possible now. He can not concentrate, because the time is too short.

“Everybody wants the job. If you get a job in Nigeria, it’s good for your CV. So, they already have people to choose from. They know who to pick, and they should pick him immediately.

“Sign the contract, pay him, and let him start. Let everybody rest and start watching for the future.”
