The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles will face the Desert Warriors of Algeria in an international friendly later this month, Sports247.ng reports.
The exhibition match will be held on September 27th in Oran, Algeria. The venue for the game, as well as the start time, have not yet been made public.
The game is being billed as a warm-up for the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Eagles will play Guinea-Bissau in a doubleheader on March 20 and 28, 2023. Algeria will tackle Niger.
Algeria eliminated Nigeria from the 2019 Nations Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win thanks to a last-minute free kick from Riyad Mahrez. They went on to win the tournament, defeating Senegal in the final.
The most recent meeting between the two countries took place in Austria’s Jacques Lemans Arena in October 2020. Ramy Bensebaini’s goal in the first half gave Algeria a 1-0 friendly victory.
Both nations won’t participate in the 2022 FIFA World Cup that is scheduled to be held in Qatar between November and December. Ghana denied Nigeria a World Cup berth, while Cameroon eliminated Algeria. Africa will be represented at the World Cup by Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Tunisia, and Morocco.
