Al Hilal and Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has been named as the Saudi Pro League Player of the Month for March 2022. The 32-year-old was presented with the award on Monday as recognition for his contribution of five goals and one assist in four games during the month.
Ighalo began March by scoring one goal and assisting on another in a 4-0 win over Al Nassr. He then scored the game-winning goal against Ittihad in a 2-1 victory. He drew a blank against Al-Raed in the following match, a 1-0 win for his team, before scoring a hat trick against Al Ahli in a 4-2 win to end the month.
“Our striker Odion Ighalo is the Best Player of the month “March” in the MBS League,” Al Hilal announced on social media.
Ighalo began the current season with fellow Saudi club Al Shabab before moving to Al-Hilal in January on a one-and-a-half-year deal. The former Manchester United man is the league’s leading scorer with 21 goals. He scored 12 of them while playing for Al Shabab. Ighalo has a total of 27 goals in 37 games in all competitions this campaign.
His goals are fuelling Al Hilal’s title charge. The league’s defending champions are in the second position, three points adrift of Ittihad who occupies the first position with three games left.
