Super Eagles Determined To Defeat Libya Twice, As Eguavoen Reveals High Level Of Seriousness In Nigeria’s Squad

Nigeria’s men’s senior national team, Super Eagles are bound to beat Libya home and away next month, as they seek to achieve early qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, sports247.ng reports.

This revelation is coming from the Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, who issued an assurance that all his players are giving their upcoming matches all seriousness that they fully deserve.

Eguavoen further assured Nigerians that he and his players will not relax until they pick a ticket to Morocco 2025, and admitted it would be easier to do so by beating The Arab Knights twice in October.

‘Egu’ emphasised, “We will work hard. We’ve always been working hard. We know six points are at stake, and that’s what we are working hard to get.

“We’ll try what we can do, and let’s see if we can achieve it. We’ll take both matches with all seriousness, starting with the first one at home.”

Sports247.ng also gathered that the former Eagles’ defender and captain, who is currently technical director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), then spoke about the new winning mentality in the national squad, which he disclosed is due to self-awareness among the players about the enormous task ahead of them.

‘Egu’ added: “We’ve always been serious, but it’s even better now. That’s because a change in attitude and qualification for the Nations Cup is up to them.

“It’s something we need and which I want them to do; but they have to work for it. When you want something, you have to go for it.

“That’s what they are doing, and I appreciate their efforts. I also appreciate the respect that they are all showing. Respect is reciprocal.”

He concluded by affirming the Eagles’ target of winning Libya in Uyo and Tripoli early next month, as they aim to stay top of their qualification group and pick an early ticket to AFCON 2025.

“We will work hard and try to win both games. That’s our target. The players are determined to achieve this target.

“These are players that play at the highest level. They are very smart, and they know what is at stake. They listen to instructions and will do what we instruct them to do.

“We are playing the first match at home, but we will not take it for granted. We cannot underestimate any opponent, because there are no minors in football any longer,” Eguavoen reasoned.

He also avoided taking a stand in the ongoing debate about a foreign tactician or indigenous coach to step in full time for the Eagles, stressing that the decision should be left to top shots in the NFF.
