Nigerian international Valentine Ozornwafor has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Bulgarian club Septemvri Sofia, marking his sixth European club since departing Enyimba in 2019.
Ozornwafor, a 25-year-old central defender, began his professional career with Enyimba in Nigeria before moving to Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2019. During his time with Galatasaray, he had loan spells at Spanish side UD Almería and Belgian club Sporting Charleroi.
In 2022, Charleroi secured his services on a permanent basis, after which he was loaned to French club FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Throughout his European journey, Ozornwafor has gained valuable experience across various leagues, including the Turkish Süper Lig, Spain’s Segunda División, Belgium’s First Division A, and France’s Ligue 2.
His move to Septemvri Sofia presents an opportunity for regular first-team football and the chance to make a significant impact in the Bulgarian league.
On the international stage, Ozornwafor has represented Nigeria at multiple levels, including the U20 and U23 teams, before making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in June 2021 during a friendly match against Cameroon.
Septemvri Sofia, based in the Bulgarian capital, currently competes in the country’s top-tier league and is looking to strengthen its squad with the addition of the experienced Nigerian defender.
As Ozornwafor embarks on this new chapter in his career, both the player and his new club will be hopeful that his defensive prowess and international experience will contribute positively to Septemvri Sofia’s ambitions in the Bulgarian league.
