Super Eagles full-back Tyronne Ebuehi is on the brink of completing a transfer to Serie A side Empoli from Benfica on a permanent basis, Sports247 reports.
Ebuehi spent last season on loan with Venezia, who were relegated from Italy’s top division, under manager Paolo Zanetti. He made 20 appearances. Zanetti, who took over as manager of Empoli earlier this month, is keen on bringing the Nigerian international to Tuscany.
According to Italian transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, the transfer is nearing completion, and Ebuehi will undergo the standard medical checks between today and tomorrow. The right-back is valued at €1.40m by transfermarket.com.
Ebuehi started his career with Dutch club ADO Den Haag in 2014. He transferred to Benfica in 2018 but has yet to play for the first team of the Portuguese giants, in part because of injuries. He has been on loan to FC Twente and Venezia during the last two seasons.
Born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian father and a Dutch mother, Ebuehi pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria and made his senior debut in 2017. The 26-year-old was called up to the Super Eagles squad for the 2021 Nations Cup in Cameroon where he made one appearance.
