Remo Stars secured their first ever CAF Champions League Remo Stars victory on Sunday after the team defeated AS FAR of Morocco by 2-1 with Super Eagles defender, Sodiq Ismail scoring the winner, Sports247 reports.
The one capped Super Eagles defender ensured that they got their first victory in five continental matches, by providing an assist for the first goal to emerge as the best player on the day, by far.
In a keenly contested match played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, saw the home team shot into the lead in the 19th minute via Sodiq Ismail perfectly taken free kick which was connected by Nduka Junior head to end the first half in favour of Remo Stars to break the jinx of not scoring in the first half of all their five Continental assignments.
In the second half AS FAR even played after five minutes of resumption of play through Joel Beya headed goal as he was left unmarked.
The game tempo changed as the Moroccans dragged out time, aiming to settle the game in a draw but Sodiq Ismail have a different idea, as the assist maker seized the initiative by scoring the winner with a superb diving header in the dying minutes of the game to throw the Ikenne fans in a frenzy mood.
Remo Stars will attempt to get past the first round preliminary round of the competition, next weekend in Rabat as they were eliminated at the same stage by AS FAR three seasons ago.
