The 26-year-old defender joins on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee, with a contract that runs through the remainder of 2024 and 2025, and includes options for 2026 and 2027. Awaziem will be eligible to play pending the receipt of his P-1 visa.

Cincinnati’s general manager Chris Albright expressed his excitement about the acquisition.

“We’re delighted to have Chidozie join the club,” Albright said. “He’s a talented defender with extensive experience at the European and international level. His quality, character, and leadership will be a valuable addition to our group, and I’d like to welcome him to Cincinnati.”

Awaziem, a versatile defender known for his strong presence and tactical awareness, made 27 appearances for Boavista in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season.

His move to Major League Soccer marks another chapter in his career, which has seen him play across various European leagues and represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The acquisition of Awaziem is a strategic move for FC Cincinnati, aiming to strengthen their backline with a player of proven international caliber. The Orange and Blue are looking forward to integrating Awaziem into the team and benefiting from his experience and defensive prowess.

Awaziem’s signing is a significant step for Cincinnati as they continue to build a competitive squad. The club and its supporters are eager to see how his contributions will impact their performance in the league.
