C.D Feirense forward Marcus Abraham has admitted his inclusion in the Super Eagles squad for the June friendly games against Cameroon came as a surprise to him.
Gernot Rohr handed the first-time call up to Abraham after he caught the eye with impressive performances for Feirense in the Portuguese second division.
Abraham’s inclusion in the squad came as a huge surprise to many, not least the player himself who spoke to Sports247 about his time in the camp.
“I was so excited when I saw my name on the list,” he said the moment he realized he made the list.
“At first, one of my friends contacted me that he saw my name on the (national team) list. I thought he was joking about it. I waited for some time and like ten minutes later, another of my friend called and said he saw my name on the list.
“I went on to call my boss and I asked he said yes my name is on the list. Then I knew that my name was on the list. I was surprised.”
Abraham made his Nigeria debut in the Super Eagles’ 1-0 lost to the Indomitable Lions on June 4th and was an unused substitute in the next game against the same opponents four days later. The 21-years old maintains that the pressures did not get to him despite being with the star-studded group.
“I felt no pressure. I was happy being with the players. First time I set my foot in the camp I was so happy seeing them face to face.
“I will have my chance if I keep doing my best next season. I will have a chance to be with the Super Eagles again.”
Abraham registered 11 goals and 2 assists in 26 league games for Feirense in 2020-21. The left-footed winger has been heavily linked with a move away but was tight-lipped when asked about his future.
