The Lagos State Football Association has concluded the divisional playoffs for the 2023/2024 State Football League, setting the stage for the highly anticipated Super 5 tournament.
The competition will determine which teams will represent Lagos State in the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) Division 2 zonal qualifiers, scheduled to take place from September 20-28, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement released by Wale Joseph, Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Football League, the divisional champions will now face off in a round-robin league format for the coveted top two spots.
These top two teams from the Super 5 will secure their place at the NLO zonal finals, where they will compete against other regional champions.
The divisional winners advancing to the Super 5 include Bucknor FC, representing Ikeja Division Football Association (DFA); Young Stars FC from Badagry DFA; Adosag FC from Ikorodu DFA; Okaka FC from Lagos DFA; and Ighalo FA from Epe DFA.
These clubs will now compete for the ultimate chance to represent Lagos State at the national stage.
Wale Joseph expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament, emphasizing the high level of competition and the opportunity it provides for local talent to shine on a bigger stage.
“The Super 5 is a crucial part of the football calendar in Lagos. It allows our divisional champions to prove themselves and take the next step in their football journey, representing the state at the NLO zonal qualifiers,” he stated.
With the stage set and the teams ready to go, all eyes are now on the Super 5 as the competition promises to be a thrilling showcase of grassroots football talent in Lagos.
The top teams will not only gain state pride but also a chance to elevate their status on the national football scene.
