Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure has reinforced its squad for the second phase of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) by signing 16 new players and promoting three talents from their youth team.
The Owena Whales secured the services of experienced players from both local and international clubs to strengthen their roster and enhance performance.

The new signings include Waheed Adebayo (Lobi Stars), Daniel Edeh (El Gouna, Egypt), Liman Ahmadu (Lobi Stars), Alao Dabani (Lobi Stars), Okeke Vincent (Bendel Insurance), Edafe Vincent (Remo Stars), and Ebuka Anaekwe (Kwara United).
Also joining the team are Chukwudi Esobe (Heartland), Sadiq AbduRazak (Niger Tornadoes), Buhari AbdulAfeez (Osun United), Amia Kenneth (Katsina United), Henry Elum (Shooting Stars), Uche Onwuasonaya (Shooting Stars), Ajibola Matthew (Lobi Stars), Tosin Akinyemi (Ekimogun), and Tunde Adesua (unattached).
Promoted from the youth team are Ariyo Ikulamberu, Christopher Richards, and Samuel Matthew.
Club President Bamidele Ologunloluwa emphasized the importance of the new additions, citing the need to address the team’s performance in the league’s first phase.
“We are excited to welcome these players, many of whom are well-known names in the football community both locally and internationally. We urge all stakeholders to continue supporting and praying for the team to rise above our current league position,” Ologunloluwa said.
Technical Adviser Abubakar Bala expressed optimism about the team’s future, noting that the mix of new and existing players would enhance competition across all departments and deliver improved results.
“Our priority is to build a competitive and cohesive team,” Bala added.
