Nigerian forward Sunday Adetunji scored his first European goal for FC Shkupi against FC Lincoln Red Imps in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
Adetunji lasted the duration of the game as FC Shkupi ran out 3-0 winners in the first leg of the qualifiers. The game was his first taste of European football.
Senegalese forward Mamadou Danfa gave Shkupi the lead after only eleven minutes before Adetunji added the home team’s second in the 28th minute. The former Rivers United star blasted a shot from the edge of the penalty area to double the lead.
Lincoln Red Imps defender Scott Wiseman put the ball inside his own net in the second half to pile more misery on his side. Shkupi will take the 3-0 advantage heading into the return leg scheduled for Tuesday next week.
“Champions League debut! First European goal. I’m dedicating this special moment to you all, for your amazing support. THANK YOU!!!” the 24-year-old shared on his Twitter handle after the game.
Adetunji joined Shkupi in August last year from Rivers United. Last season, he led them to their first Macedonian first league title, scoring 20 goals. The Smugglers will be hoping that the Nigerian international leads them to the later rounds of the Champions League in their maiden campaign.
