Sultan Adekoya Eyes 2028 Olympics Gold, After Winning De-Lad’s Boxing Title

One of the most enterprising performers at the recent eighth edition of De-Lad’s Boxing Promotions contest in Lagos, Sultan Adekoya has disclosed that he wants to win a gold medal at the 2028 Olympic Games.

Having won over 80 bouts since he started pugilism as a four year old, Adekoya believes he is ripe enough to aim for the biggest level of amateur boxing.

He confessed that, though his opponent tried a lot in his latest fight, it turned out to be easier than he thought, hence his verdict that there is no rival for him at the moment.

The ambitious lad, who represented Borno State at the National Sports Festival, further disclosed that he is targeting another victory at the forthcoming Nigerian Boxing Championship to launch his countdown to the next Olympiad.

Adekoya declared, “I am an amateur boxer in the 54kg category. I have 85 wins, three draws, and one loss.

“I am happy that I won this fight, but I did not think that I would perform so well like this. It was easy for me, and I’m really grateful.

“The fight was okay. The opponent tried, but I won it 3-0. I now see that there is nobody that can challenge me in my category.

“Anybody that wants to challenge me can come. Let’s fix the fight; let’s take a date. I’m ready for everybody. Bring anybody out, let’s play gate, let’s fight.”

He then projected beyond his current status and stressed that his biggest target is to make Nigeria proud at the next Olympic Games, four years from now.

“I represented Borno State at the Festival Games, where I was the first medalist. I am now going for the national championship this year, and I promise to win a gold medal for my state.

After that, my target is to win gold for Nigeria at the next Olympics. I will try my best to maintain my continuity and win gold for Nigeria. I also want to be the world best in my category,” Adekoya submitted.
