Gumut emphasized the importance of early preparation and the need for a domestic team that can be mobilized at short notice.
“All hope is not lost,” Gumut said, acknowledging the upcoming tournament window. “But my point is, before the next window, whether it’s going to be in November or February next year, what are we going to do to make the difference? Are we going to wait for a day or two and then we start crying, there’s no money, or we start preparing for it now?”
Gumut criticized the lack of preparation, comparing Nigeria’s approach to that of the Libyan team. “You don’t build a team in a minute. If you see the Libyan team, they are a team that play in the same league.
They have a league, they are running their team. So for me it’s just carelessness. I’m not even looking at the performance at all. I’m looking at the fact that we’re careless about preparing for this thing.
I don’t think we put any special attachment to this. If they did, they would have prepared better,” he concluded. This statement underscores the need for a strategic approach towards future tournaments.
