Stakeholders in the Nigeria Handball Family have expressed their excitement as Nigeria qualifies for the quarter-final of the Africa Women Handball Championship in Cameroon.
Mr. Chimezie Asiegbu, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation of Nigeria but a former Handball player and important stakeholder of handball, praised the Samuel Ocheho led Caretaker Committee of the Handball Federation of Nigeria for opening the path for Nigeria to do well in international competition.
For him, attending the Africa Women Handball Championship after several years, winning their first match after a long time, and qualifying for the quarter-final as well, are big pluses that must be sustained.
‘So far so good, Handball has been doing an excellent job” Asiegbu said.
“Attending this championship after many years of absence is a plus for us. Winning a match is another plus. Qualifying for quarter-finals is a bigger plus and cheering news to all the Handball family”. He said
Asiegbu further reiterated that with consistency and great momentum, Nigeria will regain its spot as one of the biggest Handball countries in Africa and the World.
“We have never had it so good like this since after Maj. Gen. Ishola Williams (rtd).
If we continue with this momentum, I bet anybody that in less than 4 years we will be seriously robbing shoulders with the likes of Egypt, Tunisia, Angola, etc in Africa and we will be competing for honors with the rest of the world”.
Nigeria qualifies for the quarter-final of the Africa Women Handball Championship for the first time since the 1992 edition in Morocco when they finished fourth and since 1994 when they last participated in the competition.
