Old Boys of St. Gregory’s College Obalende at the weekend held its inaugural five-kilometre fun walk through the streets of Ikoyi, Lagos.
At the well-attended event, which was graced by top dignitaries, including Professor Emeritus John Darocha, Chief Gilbert Grant and President of the Old Boys Alumni, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, participants defied the early morning rains to walk through the areas mapped out for the race.
The walk kicked off at 8.30 a.m. and before 10.00 a.m., the participants had covered the five-kilometre patch designed for them. They gleefully soaked in the rains as they walked through Ikoyi and its environs.
Perfectly timed to hold alongside the reunion party of the class of 1994 of the esteemed secondary school, no fewer than 150 Old boys of St Gregory’s College featured in the walk, which the organizers said was meant to foster the spirit of brotherhood, friendship, and togetherness among the alumni members as well as test their sporting prowess.
Speaking on the sidelines of the walk, the General Secretary of the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Alumni, Bernie Grant said, ‘’we are delighted that the through the five-kilometre walk, we have also helped in bringing former students of this great school together and it meets one of our objectives of fostering friendship among old boys.’’
Thrilled participants in the race said they were delighted to be part of the event, which some confessed was the first time they were visiting the school many years after graduation.
“It is a great privilege to be hereafter many years of passing out of this school and I am thrilled that I finished the five-kilometre walk,’’ said one participant, who graduated from the school in 1994.
President of the St Gregory’s Old Boys Alumni, Justice Adeniyi Ademola said the event would be held yearly, even as he commended the participants for their sportsmanship.
“This is going to be an annual event and we are going to have more sponsors coming on board from the next edition,’’ said Justice Adeniyi Ademola.
