St. Barnabas emerged as the overall champions of the FAST FEET Inter-Secondary Schools Invitational Relay Championship that was held in Jos, Plateau State.
Plateau United coach Fidelis Ilechukwu in collaboration with Fast Feet Sports Club, sponsored the event which took place last Saturday at the Zaria Road Stadium.
No fewer than 11 secondary schools, mixed-sex and single-sex (male or female) took part in the one-day relay championship that had two main events, the 4x 400m male and female and 4x 100m male and female relays.
The participating schools were Simpson College, Air Force Military School, St Michael Anglican, St Murumba College, St. Paul’s Academy,
St. Barnabas, Simps, Hikmah Schools Jos, St. Martins, St. Theresa Girls, and Blossom High School.
St. Barnabas had a clean sweep, carting away all the gold medals in both male and female events.
In the 4x400m for boys, St. Barnabas took gold while Air Force Military School claimed silver. So it was in the 4X100m as St. Barnabas, was 1st, followed by Air Force Military School and St. Paul’s Academy.
St Barnabas girl’s relay team took gold in both 4X400m and 4X100m events.
GSS Township and Alice settled for silver and bronze in 4X400m. St. Paul’s Academy and GSS Township had to make do with the second and third spots in 4X100m.

“I want to use this medium to acknowledge the efforts put by players and officials of Plateau United for the enormous role they played in making this event a success. I will always hold them in high esteem in my heart.
“Congratulations to all the athletes irrespective of him or her winning a medal. This is a challenge for each and everyone to do better next time, and that can only be achieved by training hard and listening to the coaches.
“To the secondary schools that took part in the championship, I say a big thank you to their management, as they share our goals.
“Academics and sports is a good blend and everyone here will attest to the value of sport and physical activity as wide-ranging and, as such plays an important role in promoting psychological well-being amongst us.”
