The rate of depression among women in recent times is alarming and calls for concern while engaging in sports can be a means of avoiding depression, a sports investor has said.
Dr Oluwaseun Nariwoh, Managing Director of Additional plus Sports and Education Initiative (APSE), made the assertion on Monday in Lagos.
She said that depression had a negative impact on women, urging those suffering depression to urgently seek help by going for counselling and engaging more in sporting activities.
“Our women should not be victims of depression; I have been in that state before until I went for a programme in the U.S.; there, I got the help I needed.
“We are leaving in a volatile society with uncertainty everywhere which leads many to depression; hence, our women needs help to be able to cope.
“I have advised that women should engage more in sporting activities to keep fit and relieve themselves of stress; staying indoors without help will only compound the matter.
“It is not compulsory that our women should engage in active sports, but they can do jogging, play table tennis, exercise through dancing or register in a club, she said.
