Ekiti State Commissioner of Sports and Youths, Hon. Michael Awopetu has commended the State football association for its laudable efforts to take football in the state to greater heights, despite the board’s short time in office.
Speaking yesterday in his office during the courtesy visit made by the Bayo Olanlege led board of Ekiti State Football Association, Hon. Michael Awopetu, he harped on the need for the board to continue to work harder towards the development and empowerment of youths and football in the state.
He further praised the board on its tireless efforts in developing grassroots football in the state citing the ongoing Bet9ja sponsored state league as an example.
“We must commend the Ekiti State Football Association for putting in work since they have been elected into the office, and we are not shy to say supporting this board we have not regretted it.
“We are therefore not surprised because in the few months they have been in the office, they have done well. Look at the state league currently going on, its the first of its kind in this area, ” he stressed.
He also admonished the FA board to continue working together in oneness so as to achieve a common goal.
“Nothing will work when a house is divided against itself. I will urge you to continue in the spirit of unity and love you started your time. And with this, Ekiti Football will achieve more”
In his reaction, Chairman of the Ekiti State Football Association, Bayo Olanlege thanked him for the fatherly role he played before and after the elective congress that ushered in the present board.
Olanlege stated that the board will continue to do everything within its power to develop football in the state, so as to project Ekiti through football to the rest of the world.
“We are not where we want to be but we will keep working to promote football especially at the grassroots where the development really needs to be worked on.
He continued, “And when Ekiti Football enjoys its desired growth, it becomes a win-win situation for the state, ” the youthful but renowned football administrator remarked.
The board also visited Hon. Jumoke Arogundade at her new office, she is a Commissioner with that Civil Service Commission
We had gone there to congratulate and felicitate with her on her new appointment.
She has ones been a Board member with the Ekiti State Sports Council and a loyal and passionate football and sports enthusiast. We also requested that she help us bring more females into football and other sports
In her response, she appreciated our coming and pour encomium on the new Chairman of the EKSFA and his Board. She assured all present that she will take up the challenge and ensure that more females show up at football events in Ekiti State.
Also present at the event was the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youths and Sports Mr Yemi Owoseni, the General Manager Ekiti State Sports Council, Chief Deji Samo amongst others.
