Akekoromowei had been with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side until early this year, when he officially joined their local rivals, Inter Lagos FC.
He is part of the pioneer players at Inter Lagos, who were formally launched in January and are now competing in the lower division, Nigeria National League (NNL).
However, despite playing in the Nigerian league cadre right below Sporting Lagos, Godspower Akekoromowei and his colleagues pulled off a shock 2-0 win against their more glamorous rivals in the Lagos State semi-finals.
They are now one of the two teams that will represent Lagos State in this year’s Federation Cup, much to the delight of Godspower Akekoromowei, who hails from Ondo State.
The exuberant lad beamed with excitement and admitted it was a tough game, as players on both sides gave a very good account of themselves.
He eclared: “It was a fantastic game. I love the way both teams composed themselves. I give kudos to the two sides, and I am happy that we won the match
“It was a big shock for me when I found out that we will meet them in the semi-final. I am happy that we beat them. I believe we will go far and get to the top.”
