Days after reaching out to families of late Nigerian sports personals notably that of Rashidi Yekini, Samuel Okwaraji and Sunday Bada, there has been a revelation that the sports minister, Sunday Dare has got lots in his arsenal for Nigerian sports.
This was disclosed by the representative of the sports minister, Olaitan Shittu in an interview with sports vibes on Rave FM, Osogbo this morning.
Shittu who spearheaded the visit to the families of these late sports stars said the minister has big plans for sports all round and not just football.
” The minister has lots of plans outlined and if not for coronavirus, we would have seen lots executed. When he came in, he declared he is not a minister of football but of sports and has been having things lined up for other sports like swimming, volleyball, handball, athletics and a host of others.”
Speaking on allegations that the monthly stipend for the mothers of the late superstars was too small, Shittu said: ” what matters most is the consistency of the money, the minister has a lot of plans and cannot do it all.”
” As I speak, the stipend for a year for them as being disbursed and other bodies like the NFF have joined. We are hoping the private sector can buy into the idea and from there, the money will be more than just 10,000″, he added.
Sunday Dare had put the mothers of Yekini, Okwaraji and others on a monthly stipend payroll of 10,000.
