Nigeria’s hope of reaching the final of this year’s African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON 2024) in Egypt was dashed on Saturday, as they lost 6-2 to Morocco.
Coach Victor Wenwe’s side fell to the superior skills and speed of their North African opponents, who had incidentally sent the hosts, Egypt packing in the quarter-final.

It was at that stage too that the Nigerian side’s frailties first emerged as they struggled to beat Liberia 2-1, thereby barely limping into Saturday’s semi-final fixture.
The Special Eagles, however, fell apart when it mattered most, as their first game’s man of the match, Kennedy Ezeji and free-scoring ace, Michael Jewell were both caged by the Moroccans.
The Nigerian delegation to AAFCON 2024 is now left with the consolation that the competition’s rule book confirms that the Special Eagles have already qualified for the Amputee Football World Cup as one of seven representatives from Africa.
They will seek further consolation from the AAFCON 2024 third-place match against Algeria, while Morocco play Ghana in the final on Monday.
