Players in the camp of Nigeria’s amputee football national team, Special Eagles, are braving all odds, in order to shine at the forthcoming continental showpiece.
The squad is set to storm Egypt in the middle of this month, to line out with 15 other teams at the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON).
The competition, which will serve as qualifiers for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup, is set to hold from April 18 to 26, and the Nigerian team has stepped up training towards ensuring they get a glorious outing in Egypt.
One of the players in camp is Turkey-based goalkeeper, Henry Ogidan, who admitted that the conditions in camp may not be rosy, but stressed that all the players are determined to endure sacrifices in order to make the nation proud.
In an interview with Sports 247 Ogidan stated, “I have been preparing for this Nations Cup for the past three weeks now.
I am sure we are aiming to achieve our goal by qualifying for the World Cup.
“I want to applaud the president, coaches, and department officials. They are all maintaining efforts to put the boys in shape.
I want to thank the government for putting everything in order.
“The experience has been tough, but since we have dedication on what we want to achieve in the game and the goal we want to claim, we just have to put in every effort.
“Either in worst moments, tough moments, good moments, laughter moments … we’ll put in all we’ve got. The camp … let me just say … is good.
“The government has been trying and putting efforts in one or two things to make us achieve our aims.
We are all also working hard to achieve our aim of qualifying for the World Cup 2026.
“The camp has been going well, and we’re training hard. I’m positively minded only.”
