Head coach of Spartan Spikers of Yola Volleyball team, Polycarp Joel is relishing thier Division One championship conquest as he eyes Premier League conquest following promotion.
Polycarp admitted that the championship and Premier promotion almost slipped out of thier hands after loosing two sets in thier final game but the team buckled up and gave a good comeback fight
He said, “I feel very excited because it’s not easy to come from down and go up and win the Division One Championship League because everybody came to the cup to qualify for Premier which is also our target. But we thank God that He made it possible for us to achieve.”
“At a point, we were loosing, the boys lost focus which affected everyone. The settings has been confused because we came with one setter due to the other setter’s unavailability. So we just have to manage him, so when he’s tensed, we will loose the match and that’s why we lost the two set,” Polycarp explained.
On if the team can mount a Premier title challenge with this set of players, “We are going to recruit so many players now that we have made the Premier League because it’s not a child’s game, it’s not division one. So going there without adequate preparation means you are going back.”
“I will never come back, if I’m going there, we are going to take the trophy, that’s what our eyes is on,” he vowed.
“So if I’m recruiting new players, I know what to do which is evident in the lapses discovered here, going there is to go and conquer,” he concluded.
