This groundbreaking event is set to reshape the sporting landscape of the region, driving youth empowerment, grassroots sports development, and cultural integration.

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, has thrown his full support behind the maiden edition of SWAG, describing it as a landmark initiative that will unite the South West, empower young athletes, and promote economic growth through sports. Hosting the President of the Organising Committee, Akogun Lanre Alfred, and his team, the revered monarch praised the tournament’s vision, emphasizing its potential to revitalize grassroots sports and preserve the region’s rich cultural heritage.
“This is a golden opportunity to nurture talent, create job opportunities, and drive regional development through sports,” the Ooni declared, noting that similar grassroots competitions have produced some of Nigeria’s greatest sporting icons.
Former Ogun State Governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba (CFR), has also endorsed the South West Games 2025, commending its role in youth empowerment, regional unity, and sports advancement. Meeting with Dr. Alfred in Abeokuta, Osoba highlighted the tournament’s significance in fostering athletic talent and reinforcing the cultural ties among South West states.
