The southeast Zonal Coordinator of the National Youth Development Project (NYDP) Peace Cup Comrade Chiagozie Paddy Obinna (KSJI) has appealed to South Eastern Governors to rally around and show support towards their State Coordinators in the NYDP Peace Cup project.
The Peace Cup which has been endorsed by stakeholders in sports and recommended as one of the possible means to restore national peace in Nigeria and her borders cannot be successful in each of the South East States if the Executive Governors do not give their blessings.
In recent times, there have been several reports on the media of cases of violence in the South Eastern States, leading to self-imposed curfew in some cases where citizens living in these locations decide to close down their businesses daily earlier than usual in the bid to avoid staying out late at night.
With the introduction of the NYDP Peace Cup in Nigeria, South Eastern States have so much to gain in their bid to address this scourge which is gradually affecting the youths at the grassroots level. The Youth are the most affected, as some of them will be used in these societal ills which could endanger their lives and make them not realize their dreams.
Football has become a global tool for preaching peace in the world, and the NYDP Peace Cup which has the theme: Promoting Peace Within our BORDERS cannot do less than become an instrument for invoking Peace within the South Eastern States.
Comrade Obinna also called on the various State Coordinators in the South East Zone which are Chief Eric Ikwuagwu-Abia State, Mr Onochie Okanu-Imo State, Hon. Engr Chima Nnachi-Ebonyi State, Hon. Edeani M. Edeani- Enugu State and Comrade Okaka Onyeka Chukwunonso-Anambra State to seek all the necessary supports needed from their State Governors and ensure the project achieves its objectives.
The formal unveiling of the Peace Cup which was earlier scheduled but could not hold is now expected to hold in June 2021 at the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja. All-State Coordinators are expected to be in attendance.
