The Super Falcons, under the guidance of Coach Randy Waldrum, have managed to advance to this stage after a nail-biting contest against Cameroon. Esther Okoronkwo’s solitary goal over two legs proved to be the game-changer.
Kaylin Swart, the 29-year-old goalkeeper, is set to lead the team in the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Andile Dlamini, who is sidelined due to medical reasons. Swart expressed her confidence in her teammates and highlighted the intense rivalry between the two teams. “Playing against Nigeria is always a great battle… I have full confidence in my teammates,” she stated.
Kaylin Swart credited the healthy competition within the team’s goalkeeping department for her growth as a player. “Competition brings out the best in us… I’ve worked hard to be where I am, and I think my confidence grew,” she remarked.
She also emphasized the unity and chemistry within the South African squad as crucial factors for success. She believes that the team’s growth and the individual brilliance of its players could lead them to victory against Nigeria.
The first leg of the crucial qualifier will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday, April 5, 2024. The return fixture is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
The winner of this two-legged tie will secure a spot in Group C at the Olympics, alongside Spain, Brazil, and Japan. As the teams prepare for this decisive match, the stakes are high, and the anticipation is palpable.
