The chairman of Katsina United, Aminu Balele has declared that South Africa deserve to host next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, because he believes they have the right facilities and crowd appeal for the event.
Making his view known in a chat with sports247.ng on Wednesday, Balele added that he will not be surprised to hear that Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the hosting right to The Rainbow Nation.
Apart from boasting of quality infrastructure, Balele reckoned further that South Africa will get CAF’s nod to take over from where Cameroon fell short, because officials in Nelson Mandela’s country are very smart.
The outspoken football administrator also pointed out that South Africa will do everything to get the nod, because that could be the only way they can participate if they do not place second in Nigeria’s group.
Balele made his comments on the heels of CAF stripping Cameroon of the right to host AFCON 2019, due to lack of preparation.
A new host country will be announced before the end of the year by the continental body, ahead of which Balele emphatically declared: “It will surely be South Africa. They deserve it more than any other country.”
