Solid Miners Held to Goalless Draw by Ikorodu City as Relegation Battle Intensifies

Nasarawa United, also known as the Solid Miners, were held to a frustrating goalless draw by visiting Ikorodu City FC of Lagos in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match-day 24 fixture at the Lafia City Stadium on Saturday.

Despite employing various tactical approaches to secure a win, the home team struggled to find the net, deepening their relegation worries. Both sides created several scoring opportunities, but wastefulness in front of goal proved costly, with United’s goalkeeper, Detan Ogundare, forced into action more frequently than his counterpart.

United’s attacking line, featuring Anas Yusuf, Qamar Adegoke, Idris Ajiya, Garba Abubakar, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Peter Eneji, failed to convert multiple clear-cut chances across both halves. On the other end, Ogundare made some outstanding saves to deny Ikorodu City’s Ajeyigbe Toyeeb and Shola Adelani from breaking the deadlock.

Both teams remained resolute in defense, leading to a share of the points. The result was particularly disappointing for Nasarawa United, who had secured a 2-1 victory in the first-leg fixture in Lagos.

Following the draw, the Solid Miners remain in 18th place with 26 points from 24 games, intensifying their battle to escape the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Ikorodu City climbed to 6th place with 35 points from the same number of matches.

Nasarawa United will now shift focus to their upcoming fixture against Bayelsa United in Yenagoa on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

They will then return home to face Remo Stars on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, following adjustments made due to the President Federation’s Cup State Finals, scheduled for February 22-23, 2025
