The impending arrival of Nigerian-born striker, Dominic Solanke at Crystal Palace of England is already exciting The Eagles’ coach, Roy Hodgson, as he believes the lad from Liverpool can add an extra bite in attack to his squad.
Sports247.ng gathered that Hodgson was all smile at the weekend, as reports confirmed that Solanke is set to arrive at Selhurst Park this week, and the former England manager says it is a positive sign for better things in 2019.
Hodgson believes Solanke has the right profile to succeed at Selhurst Park, though the youngster is yet to feature for Liverpool in the English Premier League this season.
Earlier on Sunday, Palace chairman, Steve Parish said they were hopeful of getting Solanke to the club as they look to solve their troubles in front of goal, a move widely predicted in the press over the last week.
Parish said: “We’re trying. These things are never straightforward, are they? We’re really trying to get someone in early.
“If we can it will make a big difference and lift everybody. For once, the papers are not miles off.”
After the Chelsea game, Hodgson was pressed to speak on a potential Solanke move and he said: “He’d provide the attacking threat a good centre-forward should provide and he’s a proven goalscorer through the age groups with Chelsea and England.
“If he comes here, it will be a great opportunity to show he can transfer that to the Premier League, because we have someone with the profile we are looking for and who I think has the ability we are looking for.”
